Basic Military Training (BMT) is conducted at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas, known as the Gateway to the Air Force. All Air Force BMT is conducted here.
Training approximately 35,000 recruits each year is an enormous task. Eight squadrons accomplish this mission. Six of these are training squadrons that train Regular, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve recruits in the fundamentals of being an Airman. This includes military discipline, drill and ceremonies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and a comprehensive range of subjects relating to Air Force life.

All Airmen attend the Airmen’s Week course immediately upon graduation from Basic Military Training. Airmen’s Week is an effective learning course focused on the internalization of Air Force Core Values and the Airman’s Creed. The course challenges Airmen with moral and ethical dilemmas, enhancing their professional “Airmanship” and personal resiliency.
