Basic Military Training Units

All Basic Military Training (BMT) for the U.S. Air Force is conducted at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, known as the Gateway to the Air Force. 

Basic Training Squadrons

Training approximately 35,000 recruits each year is an enormous task. Eight squadrons train active duty Air Force, Space Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve recruits in the fundamentals of being an Airman. This includes military discipline, drill and ceremonies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and a comprehensive range of subjects relating to Air Force life.

Basic Training Support

Two squadrons support the basic training mission by providing personnel records management, job classification and discharge actions, resource management support, academic instruction and field training.
