Basic Military Training Units

Basic Military Training (BMT) is hosted on Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Lackland in San Antonio, TX.  Since this is the only enlisted basic training base in the Air Force, all new recruits attend training on JBSA-Lackland.  Basic trainees are assigned to one of six different squadrons listed below.  Two additional support squadrons also ensure the training, education, and development of these new recruits is world-class.  Please refer the sections listed below for additional specific squadron information.

Basic Training Squadrons

Training approximately 35,000 recruits each year is an enormous task. Eight squadrons accomplish this mission. Six of these are training squadrons that train Regular, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve recruits in the fundamentals of being an Airman. This includes military discipline, drill and ceremonies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and a comprehensive range of subjects relating to Air Force life.
